The gist of this is that in order to excel you need to work for it… and believe you can.

How are you feeling today?

Feeling despondent because the business you’ve been working on for months, maybe years, has bore little or no fruit?

Do you feel like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders?

I did.

Until I saw this video.

If you feel you’ve got problems, watch this video.

Then, I dare you to keep complaining.

Best,
Rezbi

Have you seen the latest Harry Potter Movie?  If you have you’ll know what I’m talking about.  If you haven’t, well then, listen up.

In the latest installation of this sorcery fest based at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft, during a a little classroom competition Harry wins a small bottle of liquid luck – a luck potion.  He figured out how to make a certain mixture by reading about it in… naaah… I won’t spoil it all for you, just in case you haven’t seen it.

Anyway, Ron, Harry’s best mate, is the ‘goalie’ in the latest inter-house quidditch competition and he’s, well, let’s just say he’s shitting bricks. (Sorry, wasn’t I supposed to ‘shit’?  Okay, I won’t say ‘shit’ again.  I promise… I think).

On the day of the competition, at the amazingly long dining table, Harry hands Ron a cup to drink from.  Another student, can’t remember the name, asks if Harry’s put the ‘luck potion’ in it.  Without saying a word Harry smiles, wryly, and puts the bottle back in his pocket.

Hermione (pronounced Her-me-own, as far as I’m concerned), in her usual goody-two-shoes way, exhorts Ron not to drink.  So he does.  And immediately begins to smile and is raring to go.

At the game itself, Ron is unbeatable.  At the end of the game he is the hero, the champion, and even gets the girl… even if she is ugly.  Hermione is jealous.

Harry later confides to Hermione that he hadn’t, in fact, given him the potion.  It was just a ruse, a trick, to give Ron the confidence to be who he truly is and play as he really can.  A confidence booster.

I was reminded of this as, lately, I’ve been feeling quite down myself and feeling very low.  So I did something I felt I’ve needed to do for a long time.  I found myself a mentor – someone who’s ready to give me a kick up the backside when I need it most.

Because, the fact is, it’s not the people around who doubt us most.  The ones who doubt us most are the ones looking straight back at us when we look in the mirror.

And it’s at these times when we need someone whose only concern is to ensure we do our best and not feed our egos, which rarely helps, especially if we think there’s nothing there to feed.

Best,
Rezbi

Do you ever get one of those days… you know… THOSE days?

You know what I mean.

Well, I had one of those days the night before last.

Actually, that’s one of those nights, isn’t it?

Anyway, what happened was I had some work to do unexpectedly and ended up not only awake all night, but I didn’t get to bed till around midday yesterday.

I had to get up again at 5pm and, after being awake for over twenty hours, that just was not enough.

As you can imagine I didn’t get much rest and ended up with a HUGE migraine.

This morning I woke up, or rather was woken up, by this migraine.

I came downstairs, ate an apple and took two ibuprofens and two paracetamols.

It’s mostly gone now, the migraine, but I can still feel the pressure and feel like I haven’t slept at all.

On top of that I received a letter from local government telling me they want my audited accounts.

Perfect.

I really need to get back into the groove of the thirty day challenge.

Oh, did I mention I had to re-install my Windows operating system?

First time in two years and it just happens as soon as the 30DC starts.

Now I’m having to reset all the applications and other stuff I had to set up to get started.

Once that’s done, I’ll get going with writing the proper blog posts on the 30DC again.

Until then, ciao.

That’s the beginning line from the theme song for a children’s TV show I used to watch when I was a kid – Why Don’t You…?

They used to show you how to do cool things, which I no longer remember (was it really that long ago?).

The topic of this post is procrastination.

What is that, I hear you say?

I’ll tell you later.

Just kidding.

Karl Moore, the resident motivation guru made a video which highlights the three big reasons why we tend to procrastinate when it comes to business.

And, to be truthful, I saw all of them in me.

  1. Fear – What do we fear? Failure – success – what others think of us.  It’s true, all those are valid points and we need to analyse ourselves to see why we feel like this and why they limit our abilities to achieve what we really want.  Karl also mentioned that we tend to feel sorry for ourselves (Oh why, oh why, oh why, can’t I do it when everyone else can?  Sound familiar?  I know it does to me and I’m not afraid to admit it).  It’s when we accept our self-limiting thoughts that we can begin doing something about them.  We are also afraid of the scale of the job before us.  The fact is, if anyone tried to climb Mount Everest in a day no one would make it.  The ‘trick’ is to do it a little at a time.
  2. Which brings us on to the next point – Focus.  We need to decide what’s important and do those things.  Anything that’s not important shouldn’t occupy our time.
  3. Which smoothly brings us on to the final point (I’m on a roll today) – Time management – In order to ensure we get things done, and on time, we need to work out a to do list.  We need to make time and ensure we stick to our schedule.

Again, more on those points later.

Keep your chin up and think positive.

Till next time, feel free to add any comments or questions.

This is Sigmund, signing off.
